Major Raylton Dixon was a partner in the large shipbuilding firm, Raylton Dixon & Company, who built several vessels for Her Majesty’s Navy and for many of the principal Mail Companies.
The Mayoress, Mrs Dixon, was a Glasgow lady, when as Miss Elizabeth Walker she was married to Mr Dixon in 1863.
The Mayor was a Magistrate.
