He was my wife’s Great Great Grandfather. She was also a police officer. She spent 30 years with Durham Constabulary. William was one of the few Chief Constables of his era to come up through the rank structure. Most of his contemporaries were appointed Chief with no prior police experience. There’s a considerable amount of academic research involving William as he led the Middlesbrough police at a time the town was rapidly expanding .
My great grandfather was Albert Ashe ,Annie s brother My Mum passed when i was a baby but my Aunt Anita and her Cousin remember Martha who was another sister
All very interesting
