I was in the Infirmary in 1957 for an eye operation. What a grand building it was and more than just the entrance portico should have been preserved and retained. Sadly due to the relatively short history of Middlesbrough, it did not have many potentially “iconic” buildings, but recent administrations saw fit to demolish them in the interest of progress ? I include the magnificent Royal Exchange building and others in this category.
