According to the 1893 Kelly’s Directory, the landlord was my great great grandfather Miley Prior who was supposed to be a “character”. I’ve been told that one road in Redcar – Priory (Grove possibly) – was named after him and another road named after someone from the same family but we neglected to take the details down. I think he had some dealings with the Star and Garter (and another pub “over the border”) but haven’t been able to confirm this.
