This photo shows the demolition of St. Hilda’s Church, taking place from 1969 to 1970.

St Hilda’s Parish Church was situated in the north east corner of Market Place. The foundation stone for the church was laid in 24th July 1838, had its first service on 15th May 1840, and was consecrated in 25th September 1840.
