My great grandfather’s marriage certificate states he was living in Olive Street in 1863, his name was Louis Churchman (Kirschmann). He was born in Darmstadt, Germany. I am very interested in finding out more about the German migrants who came to the area in the mid to late 1800s
Hello Vanessa,
Thank you for your comment. We have access to ‘Ancestry’ and ‘Find My Past’ if you would like to look at parish records and census data. It is free, and you would only need to bring in a form of ID with your name and address on to sign up for a library card and to access the computers. We also have access to trade directories and electoral rolls, amongst other items. Please call into Middlesbrough Reference Library if we can be of any help.
Kind regards,
Thank you for the offer of help. I will definitely call in the not too distant future.
