What a beautiful drawing and how fascinating.
I was an Imeson before marriage, my father, James Maurice Imeson after the war worked for ICI , the family lived in Linthorpe.
My Grand-father was James Imeson and I believe he was Manager for Hintons, possibly a comestible store, he married Rachel Newton who was part of the Storm family of Robin Hood’s Bay.
Do you think we are related to John and Tom Imeson in the picture ?
John Imeson (1825 – 1885) was my 3x great grandfather. He was Mayor of Middlesbrough in 1879.
I have a photograph of an Imeson’s shoe-shop outlet at No 139 High St , Stockton on Tees. The photograph must be dated before 1880 as it is recorded that Stockton-based shoe-shop owner Thomas Stanton had taken over the premises around 1880-’82.
Under the ‘Stantonia’ brand he began shoe manufacturing as well as retailing and though dying in 1886 aged only 46, his wife Katherine took the business forward into the 20thC opening several branches across the N/East. A huge painted sign for ‘Stantonia’ football-boots was carried on the roof of M’bro F.C.’s early Ayresome Park main-stand for many years.
I u/stand that the Imeson family later moved into property development and theatre-ownership and I’m wondering if Thomas Stanton had negotiated some form of arrangement to take over the Imeson family’s shoe wholesaling/ manufacturing facility at that time?
