All the bombing across the UK during World War 2, notably the docks of Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Sunderland, Newcastle and Hull, Middlesbrough’s dock was basically left because Nazi Germany thought the war would be won. The steel works at the time, was the largest in Europe and it was close to Germany and occupied Holland. They did have a go a few times and one of the bombings hit the train station, but most of Middlesbrough’s targets went untouched.
