What was this building originally? Its marvellous- I noticed it a couple of weeks back ,on coming out of M & S

According to local historian Paul Stephenson,
36-42 Linthorpe Road was built in 1889, originally a terrace of four shops with offices above. It was designed by Roger Lofthouse in a ‘Northern Renaissance’ style.
