I remember Wefords bakery being built about 1953 I think. The Steelwork was produced by Octavious Atkinson of Harrogate. My grandfather was transport manager and delivered much of the steelwork. I lived in Acklam and he would collect me and let me go down to the site with him in the wagon.
I worked here in 1976 as a van boy .alas the union people in this place caused one too many strikes and alas it closed its doors….I used to scoff the fresh cream cakes early morning and blame the packers..lol
I worked here when it was homepride bakeries, happy days.

I have fond memories of the fantastic smell of fresh bread in the school yard of Caldecotes School across the field from the bakery 60 years ago

My father worked there for decades before being made redundant in the late 70s
My auntie worked there in the 60s, she cut her finger off on the slicing machine…
I have a picture of me mam Judith freeman and she was on Enroba met my father there who worked on the vans she has very fond and my dad loved to bake
A lot of my family worked at welfords in the bakery, my Nana often spoke about working here
