    • Hello Ged,

The Royal Exchange was a red bricked building that housed a variety of firms and organisations, including tailors, accountants and merchants to name a few. At its opening in 1868, it was also a great symbol of Middlesbrough’s prosperity in steel and iron, and in subsequent years was the offices of Dorman Long and Co. It was situated on where Exchange Square is, beneath where the the A66 viaduct is now. It was demolished in February 1985 to make way for the A66.

  1. It was in such a poor state of repair when demolished.. such a shame so sad all the local history been erased with such ease and for what .? The a66 flyover so many fine buildings just gone forever to be replaced with bland boring rubbish..
